Creative Assembly have announced their new Total War game – Total War: Attila – at EGX 2014 in London. The latest instalment in the Total War series is set in the build-up to the dark ages during the dying embers of the Western Roman Empire. As the title of the game suggests, Attila the Hun will be the main nemesis of the game. The game will continue the series’ traditional mix of real-time strategy battles and turn-based campaign map strategy. Although the era of the game is close to that of Total War: Rome 2, Creative Assembly have stated that Total War: Attila is a fully fledged stand-alone game.
The Western Roman Empire and Eastern Roman Empire will be the two playable factions in Total War: Attila. Both factions will face enemies on all sides of their now bloated and unmanageable empire. Indeed, players may have to accept losses before fighting from a position of strength against the ‘barbarian’ hoards. As well as Attila the Hun, players will have to face off against other hostile factions including the Saxons.
One major feature that will be making a return to the Total War franchise in Total War: Attila is the family tree. Players can assign members of the family tree to governorships of cities or knock them off if they’re not working in your interests.
Three other new features for the Total War: Attila campaign are the campaign log, diseases, and abandoning cities. The campaign log tracks every event that happens in your campaign, and players will be able to share their campaign log online with other Total War players. Diseases meanwhile are a new feature that could have a significant impact on the campaign mode of Attila: Total War. Diseases can break out in cities and amongst armies, with armies having the potential to spread diseases to other cities. Diseases can be devastating both to armies and city populations. However, they can be combated by improving sanitation in cities. A new option open to Total War players in the campaign of Total War: Attila is the ability to abandon cities and wipe them from the face of the earth. This is in order to disrupt enemies and prevent them from taking your resources.
Creative Assembly confirmed during the developer session that Total War: Attila will be out some time in 2015 for PC and Mac.
