Super Smash Bros Will Lift Wii U Sales Says Ubisoft’s Alain Corre

Super Smash Bros. Wii U Amazon Leak

As the title says above, Alain Corre of Ubisoft was more than happy to tell GamesIndustry that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will help system sales.

Corre says “Nintendo has some of the best franchises in the world and it knows how to make great games. It proved that with Mario Kart, and it will prove that again with Super Smash.” He also believes that “Super Smash Bros. will be a trigger to increase the momentum of the Wii U at Christmas.”

This comes after Ubisoft announced they will not be releasing any more rated M games on Wii U, along with Call of Duty Advanced Warfare not being produced on Wii U. If gamers know anything, Nintendo’s demographic is highly different than those of the Xbox One and PS4. We know by the content that is bought on each games. Most people who buy an Xbox One or PS4 are going to be playing first-person shooters and sports games. Wii U has Mario, most RPG’s, and a ton of “kid-friendly” games. These gaming companies tried to push on Call of Duty on the Wii and Wii U a long time ago and it failed miserably for this exact reason. There’s no desire to have first-person shooters on a Wii/Wii U. It doesn’t work either. The parents aren’t going to buy Call of Duty on the Wii U. The Wii U was meant for a different type of gameplay, hence the different controller.

The important thing to take out of Alain Corre’s announcement is that Super Smash Bros. will boost up Wii U sales. We’re not surprised if any gamer knows the track record of the Super Smash Bros. franchise. There’s still a competitive scene for Super Smash Bros Melee on the MLG circuit. Major League Gaming still considers a game for the Gamecube, which is discontinued and no longer producing games, popular enough to continue streaming and holding tournaments. That says a lot about the franchise. Are we shocked that Wii U sales could spike due to Super Smash Bros. being released? Personally, I don’t think so, but we’ll have to see how the game turns out before any other arguments can be made.
