Pokemon- World Championship Stream Details

It’s the sporting event of the summer, the grand stage upon which pseudo-athletes will compete in real competition, to the screams of women and the cheers of men, complete heart-pounding drama and sweaty palms. Many will enter, few will win. This time, it’s all about the title.

And I’m not talking about SummerSlam.

All jokes aside, the Pokemon World Championships held in Washington D.C. will be attended by over 500 Pokemon TCG and video game players (specifically concerning Pokemon X and Y) from over 30 countries to compete for the Pokemon World Championship title. These “Pokemon trainers” will range anywhere from relatively unknown to minor celebrity competitors, such as prominent Youtuber like Josh “TheJWittz” Wittenkeller. As the title suggests, the event will be live-streamed over the stream hosting site Twitch.tv for the viewers at home to enjoy on  August 16th and 17th.

We don’t often think of Pokemon as a competitive game in the same way we see games like Starcraft II or League of Legends (or at least I don’t), but the Pokemon World Championships are no laughing matter- trainers spend countless hours leveling up their Pokemon, winning regional competitions, and lots of other tedious tasks that non-Pokemon competitive players don’t have to deal with. There’s no grinding in Starcraft II, for example, and LoL “grinding” to max level doesn’t require anywhere near the effort or discipline needed for a full team of maxed-out Pokemon.
