On August 12, 2014, the Gamescom press conference has revealed many things about the Ninja Theory (NT) studio. For starters, this company showed-off their new intellectual property (IP) called Hell Blade with a cinematic trailer; this dramatic footage presented a female swords-woman named Senua kneeling before a hanged corpse at a Norse ruin, while “Just Like Sleep” by Passarella Death Squad played in the background. Although interested players are seeing the future protagonist for the first time, everything in this developing production could possibly change as hinted by Dominic Matthews (Production Developer) in the first development diary video.
What is cool about these development diaries is that audiences can share the journey with the developers throughout the whole production process. Like this special case, viewers are finding out that this whole trailer was done by a small crew under a tiny budget. By creating this teaser through the unreal engine, these innovate developers wanted to set a quality, tone, and mood that they can recreate from scratch.
Yet, this risky experiment requires overcoming some major hurdles. For example, licensing music can take weeks to months. Additionally, the small team needed someone to act as a temporary fill-in actress for this small role. Despite these complications, this talented group executed this wonderful package in eight-weeks before the presentation at Sony’s conference.
Although spectators have seen this teaser for a while, they can actually see another version with Melina Juergens (Video Editor) acting. Personally, this writer hopes she retains the protagonist role as an actress. Anyways, here’s the second clip:
Besides providing these videos, the publisher has also shared some high definition screenshots from the engine.
Along with these shots, viewers can also see the collection of concept artworks too.
Finally, readers can access the images that show the lighting application and difference that really set the mood and tone.
Fortunately, this publisher enjoys making this process and tweeted to followers. We love video games, but we also love industries who are happy about their work too! Any creative hashtag for this?
It was great fun making the dev diary. We're looking forward to making more!
