NetherRealm Studios’ highly anticipated fighting title, Mortal Kombat X, is set to feature a 24-character roster, but it is now speculated that 12 of the old fighters from previous Mortal Kombat instalments will return whilst 12 new faces will be introduced. (Some of the characters have already been confirmed to make an appearance in the title, of course.)

Ed Boon, creative director on Mortal Kombat X, responded to a Twitter user when he was asked whether the top row in the character selection menu are reserved for returning characters and the lower row is specifically set for new characters, with a simple reply of “Seems accurate..” coming from Boon.

Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden and Kano have been confirmed as returning characters from the franchise and all feature on the top tier of the selection menu, whereas Ferra/Torr, Cassie Cage, Kotal Kahn and D’Vorah are placed below them on a separate track.

It was revealed yesterday by Ed Boon that Kano would be making his return to the franchise, which featured the mercenary in action against the latest kombatant in the ever-expanding roster, D’Vorah. More details on Kano’s announcement can be found here at Gamer Headlines.

Running on a modified version of the Unreal Engine 3, Ed Boon confirmed earlier this year that the title will be running at a consistent 1080p and 60fps.

Mortal Kombat X is scheduled for release in 2015 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
