Metal Gear Solid creator and director Hideo Kojima revealed a few months ago the size of the actual map which will feature in his upcoming open-world stealth title, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but it now seems that a Reddit user has taken an in-depth examination of the map and uncovered more details behind a specific region in the game.
The large section of the map that has been reconstructed by the user is Afghanistan, where a significant part of the story is set to take place, with Big Boss sent on a mission to the country in order to rescue his second-in-command, Kaz Miller.
Kojima, who turned 51 yesterday, had previously stated that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s map will be 200 times larger than the prologue released earlier this year, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
However, the number of trailers that The Phantom Pain has had does confirm that this will not be the only region in the title, specifically for how Big Boss is seen with child soldiers from Africa — expected to be an integral theme in the plot of MGSV — and how Kaz said at the end of the trailer from E3 2013, “He mentioned something interesting. Cipher is pursuing new research. He claims that what they’re doing in Africa is ‘the missing piece’. A weapon… to surpass Metal Gear.”
Taking into consideration how Kojima’s fourth instalment in the franchise, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, featured trailers that specifically centred on the Middle East while the final product allowed players to explore other regions in the title, don’t be surprised if there is a vast exploration available in the open-world environment of The Phantom Pain.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has the player once again assume the role of Big Boss, with the veteran soldier emerging from a 9-year coma following the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has not received an official release date, but the title is rumoured for release in 2015 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
