More new gameplay footage ahoy! Dead Island 2 gameplay footage has been released, check out this five minute clip. Watched it? Good, now onto why I think it looks promising.
What fills me with joy is just how vibrant this game is. We have enough gritty zombie games out there, with State of Decay, and Resident Evil, it’s nice to see a game which isn’t just shades of brown and grey, but rather bright reds and oranges flood your view, and it looks pretty sweet.

Gorgeous visuals to go alongside the brutal murdering.
This leads onto the next point of the game not exactly taking itself seriously. In the video we see zombies being sliced in half with an axe, with the top half of the body flung across the sky as a sea of blood rains down upon the street. Gruesome? Yes. Entertaining? Most definitely. The absurd weaponry also lends itself to what looks like a fantastic experience, flaming magnums and hammers to electric shotguns and knives, the world doesn’t look like just a joy to explore, but an enjoyable murder-ground. Making these fancy weapons requires exploration, and with a world as beautiful as this, I can see myself spending hours exploring just to create the best tool to mow down hordes. Alongside the variety of weapons, there’s a variety of characters discussed as well, to, a nimble ex-stuntman to a tank-like character, so Dead Island 2 seems to be catering to a variety of playstyles.
Already this is sounding like an improvement to the original, which was plagued with bugs, here’s hoping the second won’t have the same problem. Nearer the end of the video, it’s stated that the game is in alpha territory, it seems to be shaping up well. No mention has been made of story missions, so we have that to look forward too.
All in all, with Dead Island 2 having a nice comical feel to it, and other games like Dying Light having a more serious vibe, this seems like the year of the zombie shooting genre.
