Bungie Reports No Item Trades in Destiny at Launch
Surprisingly, Bungie announced in an unexpected way that highly anticipated Destiny will not feature item trading when the game launches next month. The company provided this information when they responded to a question from their postal fan service. One just happened to be Jackbandit’s question: is it going to be possible to trade items in the full game?
The company replied, “Only with your enemies. Trade your ammo for their loot. You know the best way to deliver ammo to a Cabal Centurian? You’ll figure it out, and it’s tons of fun. As for swapping irons in the Tower? Nope. We want you to earn ‘em. You should be able to tell a badass story for every sweet jewel in your arsenal. Once you earn them, the various Guardians under your account will be able to trade them, but weapons belong to the players who acquire them through action and bravery.”
Obviously, the developer feels that every item in the player’s inventory must be earned, and nobody should be able to become powerful without some hard work. Meaning, friends or allies can not pass their unwanted items to new members for any sympathetic or strategic reason. Despite this setback, items obtained from the main character can easily be transfer to the other Guardians under the user’s account.
Even though Bungie took away the item trades, the company might provide this feature in future updates. Additionally, the developer even said that trading might become available in Destiny at some point if the community asks for it. Meanwhile, they also confirmed that microtransactions won’t be a thing either at launch.
Coming early next month on September 9, 2014, Destiny will finally arrive on four consoles: PlayStation 3, PS4, XBox 360, and XBox One. For more information about this highly anticipating game, please visit the official website.
