HTC One M8 Prime Vs iPhone 5S – Review of Specs & Features

by GH Staff

HTC One M8 Prime

This is a phone with specs unlike anything we’ve seen so far in the smartphone market. HTC is certainly planning to take things to the next level with the M8 Prime. With an expected announcement in late 2014, it will be available in Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver and Amber Gold colors.

Visual Details

What’s great about the 5.5 inch display of the M8 is its huge 1440×2560 resolution. 534 pixels-per-inch is a density value that only a handful of phones are offering currently. The signature metallic body of the One series devices makes the phone look really classy.

Technical Specifications

There isn’t any official data available yet about the processor and chipset on the M8 Prime but it is expected to have an Octa-core processor. A massive RAM of 3GB and either 16GB or 32GB versions support for external 128GB memory. The expected Android version is kitkat.

Multimedia

The device will have a dual 4 megapixel primary camera with an exemplary autofocus capability and several other things like led flash, Full HD video etc. Other features like ultra pixel technology will also take it to the next level in mobile cameras.

Battery

The battery size has not yet been confirmed but it is expected to be pretty big and give a good battery time.

iPhone 5S

Apple truly took innovation to the next step this time with the iPhone 5S. Features like thumbprint scan and a brand newly released version of iOS are a big talk nowadays. Released in September 2013, the 5S is being made in Space Gray, White/Silver and Gold colors.

Design and Display

Its display size is typical 4.0 inches with a good looking 640×1136 resolution. The pixel density is quite good (~326 ppi) and the result is crisp. The mixture of high-quality plastic and metal in the body gives the iPhone 5S a unique sense of style.

Performance

The processor in this device is Dual-core 1.3 GHz with Apple’s in-house and latest A7 chipset. The RAM is 1GB DDR3 which is very rare in phones with 16/32/64GB phone storage options and like always no support for SD memory. But that’s still quite a lot of space for most people. It runs on iOS v7.1.2 and there is a planned upgrade to iOS 8 too.

Multimedia

It has an 8 megapixel primary camera featuring automated focus, flashlight, video recorder producing 1080p quality video and a several other capabilities like taking photos in HDR, geo-tagging etc.

Accessories

The package includes a standard issue charging brick, proprietary Apple hands free and of course a data cable.

Battery

The small but sufficient Li-Po 1560 mAh battery is more than enough, considering Apple’s OS optimization and is expected to provide power for 2-3 days.

Verdict

Even with the HTC One M8 Prime having mind blowing features, Apple’s optimized devices always seem to make up for their small hardware size. With M8 Prime yet to be launched, there’s no saying which would be a better choice.
