Get Over It – ‘Fully Gay’ Character in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Over the past few weeks, news of the NPC in BioWare’s upcoming release Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dorian, has boomed due to the fact he will be ‘openly gay’. Now, let’s get straight to the point. Get over it. image_40795_fit_620 It is not a big deal for a character to be openly gay from the get-go, especially in the Dragon Age franchise. Depending on how early on you romanced a character, it would have been clear where their feelings lie, even if they were heterosexual. In many ways, I’m glad that BioWare created Dorian as I will think it will change the choices of romance in the game. In some ways, compel the player to romance him. Writer David Gaider says that “it adds an interesting dimension to his back story, considering he comes from a place (Tevinter) where ‘perfection’ is the face that every mage puts on and anything that smacks of deviancy is shameful and meant to be hidden.”

It is clear that more deep and complex back stories are to come in Dragon Age: Inquisition, but I really don’t see controversy in a character being gay. BioWare have always been playing with our heart strings and really making the player think about the choices they’re making. This is what usually sets aside Dragon Age to other RPG’s and I believe it will again. It’s great news to hear that the characters will be even more diverse than ever, although some have taken it too far with labeling Dorian ‘legitimately’ gay. Dragon Age Inquisition is coming to all major platforms – PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC – on October 7th 2014.
