Firefall is Almost Here … Finally

by GH Staff

Let’s just start with excuses: MMO shooters aren’t easy to make. There’s the engine to create, the weapons to make diverse, the need to make a definitive style, there’s a whole new world to create — one that’s simultaneously new and worth exploring, and familiar enough not to scare gamers off. It’s a lot to handle.

Perhaps this is why Firefall has been in beta since 2011. These three to four years later, however, on July 29th, the beta gloves will finally be coming off. That’s right: it will (hopefully) be considered a full-fledged, playable game at this point.

The creators have been hoping since 2006 to make a high-action sci-fi shooter and putting it into the giant, social world of an MMO.

The game looks to be unique compared to both other MMO’s and other shooters, so hopefully the wait wasn’t in vain. This is not PlanetSide 2, this is not Defiance, and although it may have a look reminiscent of Borderlands, it probably won’t be very much like it, either.

Firefall looks to be its own unique hybrid between shooters and MMO’s, and beautiful to boot. You can switch between five classes, since they have more to do with your weapons and skills than your character, there will be around 12 000 weapon variations at launch, Firefall looks to be playable on most computers, and there’s a very intense plot to follow.

Hopefully you’ve managed to stay excited for Firefall, because it looks to be worth the wait.
