Doom Played on an ATM? Take a Look at this Set-Up!

Doom Played on ATM

Most gamers are always looking for a way to keep doing what makes them most happy: game! The more time for what you love, the better. And nowadays, it’s even easier to take your games along with you. From portable gaming with things like PS Vita and 3DS, to your cell phone, you can have your favorite video games in your pocket, purse, or backpack without lugging around a huge console or PC. Heck, we’ve even seen graphing calculators rigged to play video games. But here’s something interesting, especially for those who will play video games on absolutely anything and everything. While not entirely portable, this set-up is still quite the marvel.

Forget Finances – Let’s Play Doom!

Granted, this is not entirely practical or, as I mentioned, portable, but it’s still something to see. This team of Australians, under the YouTube channel name of Aussie50, has rigged an ATM to play the classic FPS, Doom, even using the side buttons on the ATM. As it explains in the description of the video, they use the “OEM PC and display, plus an i-Pac controller for mapping the side buttons, and eventually, the PIN pad.” In the video below, take a peek not only at the game play, but at the guts of the ATM and how they’ve begun to rewire it to play Doom.

While not entirely a crazy feat, considering the ATM already runs Windows XP, it’s still no small task. Rewiring everything to play music, and making sure the PIN pad and side buttons do what they’re meant to, well at least do what the team wants them to do, can get tedious. Human ingenuity seems to never be in short supply, and it’s always interesting to find things like this. It may inspire others to rig their own machines and bring what we all love into something considered mundane. And who knows, should ATMs go the way of the payphone, maybe we’ve found a new use for them!
