You waitied. You downloaded. You played. You’re probably still pretty keen on the Destiny Beta, but now the hype has died down; and besides, you’ve realized that this really is a beta and so there’s not a lot of content to hold your attention. So what console games should you be looking for next?
Exclusive Titles
Playstation 4: LittleBigPlanet 3 [November]. You can try to claim that you don’t like LittleBigPlanet, but we know that deep down inside no one can resist these adorable little ragdolls and their makeshift world. The trailer is beautiful and the last two games were great fun. This one should follow that tradition.
Wii U: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U [TBA]. If you own a Wii U, or if you’ve been looking for an excuse to by one (and Mario Kart 8 wasn’t enough to sway you), then Super Smash Bros. is the game you need to get excited about. Sure, it doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but with Wii U there’s not a whole lot on the schedule to get excited about. You’re not looking forward to Bayonetta 2, are you?
Xbox One: Project Spark [October]. How can you not be intrigued by this title? Not so much as a game as a canvas for making games, movies, and other creative ideas, Project Spark has the potential to be a killer app for the Xbox One. Certainly, there’s nothing in the Playstation line up in the near future that matches it.
Cross-Platform Titles
Destiny [PS3, PS4, X360, XBO, September]: Duh. Your enthusiasm for the beta isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. This will be one of the biggest console games this year.
Alien: Isolation [PS3, PS4, X360, XBO, October]: This game was one of the more interesting ones previewed at E3 this year. Using the original Alien movie as the inspiration for a survival horror style game is … well, inspired. It’s surprising that no one has tried this with the franchise before.
Grand Theft Auto V [PS4, XBO, October]: As the first major entry in the franchise since 2008, Rockstar has a lot riding on this game. Can they successfully re-energize GTA for the current gen on consoles? Probably. There will definitely be plenty of people lined up to find out.
