Square Enix Want Final Fantasy XIV On Xbox One
The Final Fantasy XIV director and producer, Naoki Yoshida, has spoken out on how himself as well as the rest of Square Enix want their MMORPG to be available on Xbox One. Speaking with Pocket Lint, Yoshida confessed to being a “big Xbox player”, going on to discuss how cross-platform compatibility is an important feature in the game, something that could be compromised if handled badly during the move to Xbox One:
“The thing is, A Realm Reborn is all about cross-platform compatibility. Anybody from any platform can play together. We don’t want to split our community into people who play on this platform or play on that one.”
“So we’re currently in talks with Microsoft, trying to convince them that this is what needs to happen.“
Essentially, the core problem lies within the Xbox LIVE rules, which doesn’t allow massively online multiplayer content to be played across different platforms, so if Square Enix can somehow convince Microsoft otherwise, there’s still little chance of the game hitting Xbox One. It would certainly increase the amount of users, which would be beneficial for both Square Enix and Microsoft as each company are expanding their respective products.
After a disappointing launch in September 2010, the game was relaunched under the name; Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which has arguably fixed lots of issues that were present in the original, and it currently has a healthy player base. There is currently a Mac version in development.
