Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Announced

Sony have confirmed they are in the planning stages of making an official Sonic The Hedgehog movie. Neal Mortiz is to produce the film, most notable for his contributions towards Prison Break, 21 Jump Street, and Fast & Furious. Joining him are Marza Animation Planet, who currently develop the CGI for SEGA – the studio are to use the talents of Takeshi Ito and Mie Onishi. Screenplay will be written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux.

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Hannah Minghella, the president of production at Columbia Pictures, shows her enthusiasm towards the project, specifically within the fanbase Sonic The Hedgehog has built over the years:

Along with our wonderful creative partners at Marza, we’re looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever before.

The movie will be a combination of both live-action and animated sequences – considering it’s in its early stages, no mention of a potential release date has been mentioned, however the TV show; Sonic Boom is to air late 2014, which will feature recognisable series characters such as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Doctor Eggman, Amy, and more.
