Sakurai confirms new gamemode for Super Smash Bros 4 3DS

by GH Staff

In the latest of his series of daily Smash Bros 4 screenshots, Masahiro Sakurai, lead developer of the Super Smash Bros. series, has confirmed a new game mode. The game mode, titled “Trophy Rush” will feature in the 3DS version of the game, and potentially in the WiiU version too. Along with the image was a quote from Sakurai. “Here’s a new mini-game that’s quite a bit different from Coin Launcher in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It’s called Trophy Rush! The details…will be kept secret for now.”

While he’d rather keep the details secret, we are able to speculate about what this new game mode might contain. The other mentioned game mode, Coin Launcher, allowed you to shoot coins at trophies (the main collectible in the game) to add them to your collection. Trophy Rush seems to be a replacement mode for Smash Bros. 4 which allows you to gain trophies in a similar fashion. However, this time you dont need to gather a huge amount of coins to do so.

In the image it looks like you will run around a small map breaking boxes and crates to earn points. Potentially, these crates may have trophies in them. Alternatively, you might need to gain enough points in order to qualify for a trophy as a reward at the end of the game (take note of the progress bar which seems to fill up as you get points).

Of course, this is all just speculation for now. We’ll have to wait until Super Smash Bros. 4 3DS launches on October 3rd to find out for sure.
