Ryse 2 officially canned with Microsoft, Crytek in dispute

by GH Staff

The Xbox One’s launch hit, Ryse, won’t be receiving a sequel in a dispute between Microsoft and Crytek.

Eurogamer reports that neither company couldn’t come to an agreement on who should hold the rights to the IP, confirming rumors yesterday that things were going bad over at Crytek.

Apparently, in exchange for funding Ryse 2’s development, Microsoft wanted to take over the Ryse intellectual property, something Crytek couldn’t agree to, so both parties decided not to continue. Retaining IP is important for independent developers, as we’ve seen from the likes of Bungie with Destiny and Respawn with Titanfall.

The report goes on to explain how bad development was on the whole Ryse franchise. It was a struggle to even get Ryse out as a video game. Which finally found its home as a launch title on the Xbox One after original idea of making it a Kinect-based game fell through.

At one point, the original Ryse was going to be halted. Now the sequel has officially been canned.

Crytek has been dealing with financial problems thanks to growing too fast, and things will only get worse with Ryse 2 being cancelled.

We’ll see what the future has in store for Crytek.
