Games are no strangers to delays and they often leave fans severely disappointed. Delays can be a good thing, however, and it can allow developers to polish a game to near-perfection. Batman Arkham Knight was confirmed to be delayed until 2015, January 2015 in particular if what Kevin Conroy said is to be believed. Brand Marketing Producer Dax Ginn claims that the delay was to: “Ensure we are delivering the awesome level of quality that Batman fans and gamers expect from this, the final episode and the epic conclusion to the Rocksteady Arkham trilogy.”
Lead Animator Zafer Coban spoke to Eurogamer, stating that the reason behind the delay has to do with the level of detail that Rocksteady wants to achieve. This is what he had to say:
“It’s going to be the level of detail, really.
We’re so concerned about bringing out the final installment and making sure it fits the bill in terms of the quality range we’ve been delivering with the last two games. Our attention to detail is pinnacle. So we’ve had to do that for our last installment and make sure it works across the whole board.”
The Arkham series is highly regarded for being one of the best superhero games in the market and this is an honor that Arkham Knight needs to live up to. From what we’ve seen so far at E3, Batman Arkham Knight already looks phenomenal and the full game is sure to be even better. However, Rocksteady isn’t content to just ride on their past success and Coban explains why:
“One of the big pinnacle pillars of Rocksteady is ambition, and to move things forward, and innovation.
Like when we did the first game with the combat system. Our goal is to keep doing that for every project. So even though we’ve got that core, strong foundation, we wanted to push that forward even more in the final instalment.
The attention to detail has to be there in every corner. There’s a lot of brains being racked, a lot of sweat on tables, people typing away trying to finish the game off. We’re quite excited and we just can’t wait to finish it.”
It would be excellent to see Rocksteady once again lead the way with game design, producing an experience that is both an amazing Batman game but also a great open world game as well. Batman Arkham Knight launches in 2014 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
