Nintendo Re-Elects President Saturo Iwata
Nintendo’s President Saturo Iwata has played a large role in the successes of the Nintendo 3DS and Wii. His mark on the company has led to 3DS sales of over 40 million units. That’s more than 80% of the handheld console market. Additionally, Nintendo’s forerunner in the home console market, the Wii U, has taken up over 30% of its market as well. On the coattails of all this good news and publicity, all were surprised to hear recently of Iwata’s failing condition – an alleged growth which has neither been confirmed nor denied to be a benign or malignant form of cancer. Iwata was absent from Nintendo’s Annual Shareholder’s Meeting in addition to having a limited presence in the realm of E3 2014 (despite Nintendo’s inclination to host its press conferences online via Nintendo Direct).
In light of all this, news came in from the Nintendo Annual Shareholders Meeting that president Saturu Iwata has been, in fact, re-elected to the the company’s board of directors. This is good news for fans of Iwata, however, Nintendo’s higher-ups are yet to disclose Iwata’s current approval rating. This is information which will be integral to his future position in the company so we should find out in due time.
