Developed by Crytek UK and Deep Silver, Homefront: The Revolution has just been announced with a reveal trailer, and will be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC next year. This game is the sequel to 2011’s Homefront, which was developed by Kaos Studios for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. This new game will have free-roam gameplay set in a futuristic, dystopian Philahelphia under rule by marshal law. The gameplay will be similar to Crysis and Far Cry, allowing players to approach objectives in multiple ways through its sandbox presentation. This will be very different to the much more linear experience of the first game and it opens up new possibilities for interesting, organic moments. Check out the reveal trailer below.
The original Homefront was met with mixed reviews and fell under the radar. Both the single player and multiplayer had very interesting ideas that set it apart from other FPS but they also had their fair share of problems. With THG going bust, the future of the series was uncertain until Crytek picked it up. Now, with the power of the Cry Engine 3, Homefront has a chance to make a comeback in the FPS landscape. More information to come at this year’s E3 press conference.
