Dead Rising Movie Planned

Dead Rising

A movie based on the popular zombie survival series; Dead Rising is planned for production in the not too distant future, Variety claims. The project is being handled by Legendary Digital Media, perhaps best known for 300, The Dark Night, Godzilla, and many more. Dead Rising will be first available through Crackle, Sony’s digital streaming service, then through Video On Demand, TV, and DVD via Content Media.

So far,  we know Lorenzo di Bonaventura is the executive producer – he’s arguably most known for his work on the Transformers franchise, The Last Stand, and RED. Tim Carter and Tomas Harlan of Contradiction Films, producers of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy digital series, are to write and produce the movie.

The Dead Rising franchise takes place in a zombie-infested world, typically involving bizarre ways of killing off the undead – it has spawned two sequels, the latest being Dead Rising 3, which has recently been announced for a PC release.

Whilst movies based on video-games have generally got a bad rap, a Dead Rising feature could actually be really good if handled correctly, meaning it stays true to the actual games instead of going off the rails entirely like a lot of these projects seem to do, essentially putting off fans from enjoying the experience. Other games getting the “game to movie” treatment include Warcraft, Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, and Metal Gear Solid.
