Back at E3, Rocksteady revealed that exclusive content would be coming to the PlayStation 4 version of Batman: Arkham Knight. They called it the “Scarecrow Nightmare Pack,” a name they’re apparently sticking with, but didn’t give any real details at the time.
Recently, the Batman: Arkham Knight game description on PlayStation.com has revealed new details on the exclusive content. The post states,
Gotham falls victim to Scarecrow’s fear toxin, transforming the famous city into a twisted, hellish nightmare in the Batman: Arkham Knight Scarecrow Nightmare Pack.
This sounds a lot like what’s been portrayed as the main conflict in the upcoming game, so it doesn’t seem to be particularly helpful, at least not by itself. However, the description of Scarecrow “transforming” the city sounds a bit odd, and the rest of the post may explain why. It also says,
Tear through the city in the all-new batmobile and face off against a towering vision of Scarecrow and his undead army as they spread terror on the streets, available exclusively on PlayStation 4.
A towering version? Undead army? Now it’s starting to come together. At first, people wondered if this exclusive content involving Scarecrow meant he was going to be sparse in the PC and Xbox One versions, however it seems that he’ll be present throughout the base game. This content does involve the Scarecrow, but it’s a more fantastical approach that stretches beyond his role as the game’s main antagonist.
Saying that he’ll be a “towering version” reminds me of one thing immediately- Batman: Arkham Asylum. The first Rocksteady Batman game that had us running and hiding from a giant Scarecrow in our hallucinations induced by the fear toxin. It was a thing of nightmares, and since the word “Nightmare” is used in the title of the pack, I wouldn’t be surprised to see our giant fear monger make a return.
With an undead army as well, it seems like this content will be a hallucination, or nightmare, and involve unique gameplay in a surreal environment. It could be very similar to the original Scarecrow levels in Batman: Arkham Asylum, or even the Mad Hatter side mission in Batman: Arkham City.
Only time will tell exactly what the Scarecrow Nightmare Pack is, but I feel like I’ve really pinned it down here. I’d love to see a giant version of the Scarecrow again, this time wreaking havoc in the streets of Gotham in Batman: Arkham Knight. We’ll keep you posted with the latest in Rocksteady’s highly-anticipated finale, here at Gamer Headlines.
