Review: Google Nexus 7 vs LG G Pad 8.3 – Specifications comparison

by GH Staff

Going over today’s smart devices it’s always a good idea to compare it to another smart device. Today we go over the two smart devices to see which out performs who, going over the design, display, sound, camera and battery life. Getting into as much detail as we can from processors to graphics to general user experience.

LG G Pad 8.3

  • Qualcomm® Snapdragon 600 1.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor
  • 8.3″ Full HD IPS Display, 1920 x 1200 pixels, 273 ppi
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 16 GB eMMC Memory (up to 64 GB)
  • 5MP Rear Camera, 1.3MP Front Camera
  • 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4/5 GHz), 4.0 LE Bluetooth
  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • 4,600 mAh Li-Polymer

Recent retailer price-cuts have placed the LG G Pad 8.3 at around the $225 mark, making it almost an equal to the Nexus 7 in terms of pricing. The LG G Pad 8.3 has a bigger screen going for it, but at the cost of PPI. The same resolution can be seen on both the LG G Pad 8.3 and the Google Nexus 7. The G Pad 8.3 has a slightly better processor, but has limited built-in storage. LG makes up for it by allowing microSD support, something the Nexus 7 lacks. The LG G Pad 8.3 also benefits from a really good battery, providing it with a significant battery life.

Google Nexus 7

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064, 1500 MHz, Krait
  • 7″ Full HD Display, 1920 x 1200 pixels, 323 ppi
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 32 GB Built-In Storage
  • 5MP Rear Camera, 1.2MP Front Camera
  • 802.11 a, b, g, n, n 5GHz, 4.0 Bluetooth
  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • 3950 mAh Li-Polymer

The Google Nexus 7 has similar specs when compared to the LG G Pad 8.3. The built-in storage is noticeably bigger (32 GB instead of 16GB), but the processor is slightly slower. It comes with a 7 inch display instead of the 8.3 inch display of the LG G Pad 8.3, but has a higher PPI ratio in its favor (well, this is obvious, considering the resolution is the same). While some may frown at the small size of the Google Nexus 7, others may love it for its small, portable design. In fact, it’s small enough to fit into larger pockets, so there’s that. The Google Nexus 7 has a smaller battery which costs it some battery life, but comes with the same Android Jelly Bean operating system. One major draw-back of the Nexus 7 is the lack of microSD support, so 32GB of storage is what you’re stuck with. Currently priced at around $230, the Google Nexus 7 is still a solid buy.

Conclusions

Did the LG G Pad 8.3 manage to overthrow the Google Nexus 7 from its tablet throne? Not really! LG did however manage to provide a worthy competitor for the Google Nexus 7, as the G Pad 8.3 is a worthy contender and a solid alternative. Right now, the two are similarly priced, and their specs are almost identical, so it all comes down to a matter of preference. It’s nice to know that there are alternatives to the Google Nexus 7 though. Competition drives prices down, and consumers benefit. Thus, we’d say that the Google Nexus 7 vs. LG G Pad 8.3 is a tie, without a clear winner. The only winners are consumers, who get to choose from two solid tablets at a bargain price!
