If you own the PS3 version of The Last of Us and are thinking about picking the game’s Remastered Edition on Sony’s current-gen console (the PS4), you’re in luck. Naughty Dog will surely include a discount in this case, but it’s unknown what business model they will be utilizing. In fact, Naughty Dog hasn’t decided yet it seems, but one thing is clear. You won’t be paying full price. “We’re looking into the business model for all this and will post about this once we have input from all regions” stated Naughty Dog’s Eric Monacelli via a PlaystationBlog post.

The Last of Us Remastered Edition is tailored for the hardware capabilities of the PS4, and will feature improved graphics, as well as a multitude of content released for the original game over time. The full price is set for $60, but this will not only give PS4 owners an updated version of The Last of Us, it will also provide them with all the DLCs released for the game so far. Upgrading from the PS3 version could potentially be free, but we wouldn’t count on it. The decision to bring The Last of Us to the PS4 is an extremely good one for Naughty Dog, considering that the game was previously exclusive to Sony’s Playstation 3. Many Xbox 360 users moved to Sony’s PS4 with the new generation of consoles, and these users will now have access to one of the decade’s jewels in terms of gaming.

There’s no sugar-coating it. Everyone owning a PS3 loved The Last of Us (for good reason), and everyone without access to Sony’s past-generation console pondered about buying one just for Naughty Dog’s highly acclaimed game. While still exclusive to Sony’s consoles, The Last of Us thus will become more accessible to gamers, and will prove that the PS4 is slowly building up enough content to make it a viable purchase (if there was still doubt). The Last of Us’ PS4 version is due out sometime this summer, so we won’t even have to wait too long to get a glimpse of the gorgeous game on a stronger, more capable console.

Are you planning on picking The Last of Us up on the PS4? If you own the PS3 version, what discounts are you hoping to see?
