No character DLC coming to Dragon Age Inquisition

by GH Staff

Due to technical complications, further expansion of the character roster in Dragon Age Inquisition would have to be  stored on disc as opposed to a piece of DLC. Creative director Mike Laidlaw spoke with OXM to explain why exactly this is:

“Because of how deeply enmeshed in the system companion characters are, we can’t just add them on the fly”, going on to say “part of them has to be shipped on disc. Which has led to criticism that we’re forcing people to pay for content they already own.”

Due to these criticisms, BioWare have respectively decided to not include additional character-based DLCs:

“It’s not the case, but we’ve decided this time to not go that route. There will be no DLC party members.”

This essentially means the characters that come with the game will be the only ones we see throughout the game’s lifespan – a total of six out of nine have been revealed so far, as follows:

  • Solas – Elven, Mage
  • Iron Bull – Mercenrary
  • Sera – Elven, Archer
  • Varric – Dwarf, Rogue
  • Vivienne – Mage
  • Cassandra – Navarran Seeker

The fall of 2014 marks the release of Dragon Age Inquisition, available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC – BioWare are using elements taken from Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II, and are to include much bigger playable environments, which should promote further exploration.
