GTA 5 PC petition reaches 700.000 signatures

Well, almost anyway. It’s not at 700.000 signatures just yet, but it’s damn near close enough with 690.000, and that’s not a number to be shy about. We’re of course talking about the change.org petition, one of the biggest online petitions asking Rockstar to port the highly popular GTA 5 for the PC. A GTA 5 PC version is almost a given, and despite Rockstar being shy on the details, multiple leaks in the past showed that it is indeed in development.

Rockstar hit gold with GTA 5, launching one of the most successful games of recent years, at least when it comes to sale figures. With over 32 million copies sold since its launch in September 2013, it’s one of the best-selling games in gaming history. Period. Critics weren’t shy to recognize the game’s appeal either, but unfortunately, the game is so far limited to the PS3 and Xbox 360. When GTA 4 launched on consoles back in 2008, it also proved to be successful. The PC port came almost 8 months later, but back then, Rockstar wasn’t holding back on details. Rockstar however has a track-record of neglecting PC games. It’s a company that based its initial financial success on a PC-exclusive franchise (the first GTA titles were exclusive to the PC), but quickly shifted its focus to consoles. Red Dead Redemption was one of the Rockstar games that made many people buy a console, yet the game never came to the PC to this date.

It’s unlikely the same fate will fall upon GTA 5. Rockstar would lose a huge customer-base by not developing a GTA 5 PC version, but alas, time is passing quickly and we’re not seeing any official hints about the project. Meanwhile, the gaming community is going wild online, begging the company to bring the popular game to more platforms, and even the new generation consoles. Such a large petition is nothing to neglect, and it’s not the only one. There are a multitude of similar GTA 5 PC version petitions online, some more significant than others, but overall, they do tend to add up. Will Rockstar finally take notice and at least give a straight answer. A dodgy “We’re considering it” was the only thing they declared about the matter, but that’s not really enough to calm spirits.

For now, it seems Rockstar’s main concern is to iron out GTA Online and prevent further abuses to the game’s garage, one of the best ways to duplicate vehicles and get quick money in GTA 5. GTA 5 cheats are still being sought out, but it seems these will be harder and harder to use, if at all. Once the online mode is polished, can we finally expect GTA 5’s PC version? It’s possible we’ll be seeing a remastered edition with improved graphics, a version of GTA 5 that will be launched simultaneously on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. This trend seems to become popular, and we’ve seen the same happen to Tomb Raider and The Last of Us. If you want to show your support for GTA 5’s PC version, make sure to sign your petition too.
