Assassin’s Creed 5 Unity to feature a new 4-player co-op mode

by GH Staff

With Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Assassin’s Creed: Comet coming out towards the end of the year, it seems only natural to see Ubisoft’s flagship titles at E3 this year in June. This appears to be the case, and recent NeoGAF postings reveal that AC5 will indeed be at the show. Unity will take the spotlight, with two separate demos to show off what’s in store for players. The first demo will focus solely on the singleplayer campaing and will hint at the game’s story-line, while the second demo will feature Assassin’s Creed: Unity’s newly introduced 4-player cooperative mode. We’ve seen Ubisoft dangle with multiplayer in AC titles before, and we’ve seen them successfully pull off co-op in Splinter Cell titles, but this is definitely a novelty for the series.

We can already picture how the cooperative mode of Assassin’s Creed 5 will work. Players distracting guards while others go in for the kill, or perhaps a mechanic similar to Splinter Cell, where reaching certain areas requires help from your buddies are all plausible expectations. We know for a fact that cooperative mode will have a different storyline than the main campaign, so if you were worried about repetitive content that you simply tackle with your friends, fear not.

Of course, for now, Ubisoft is keeping silent and nothing official has been confirmed as of yet, but it would surprise everyone if they wouldn’t be presenting Assassin’s Creed 5 at this year’s E3. Cooperative sure sounds great, especially since Assassin’s Creed: Unity revolves around the French Revolution. Plenty to do as a 4-member squad, that’s certain. How they pull it off remains to be seen, but if this is showcased at E3 2014, we won’t have to wait too long.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity is set for a PC and current-gen console release, meaning the Xbox One and PS4. There aren’t many titles that gamers can play in front of the new consoles in cooperative, and so far we’re seeing limited titles developed for split-screen gaming, but if Assassins’ Creed 5 pulls it off successfully, it should be a great incentive for console users to pick the game up. After all, a fun game in the company of friends is something most of us dearly miss. It’s possible that the cooperative mode will be limited to online playing only though. As for Assassin’s Creed: Comet, we know it takes place in a different timeline and will feature a separate story, being developed for last-gen consoles.

How does a 4 member co-op mode for Assassin’s Creed 5 sound?
