Tom Clancy’s The Division – Snowdrop Engine Showcased At GDC 2014

by GH Staff

At this year’s Game Developers Conference, Massive Entertainment showcase a close look at the Snowdrop engine being used to create Tom Clancy’s The Division. We were previously given a look at the Snowdrop Engine in a trailer that showed us the environment and destructibility and now, the development team explains what makes the engine so unique and details the depth of how it affects the game’s features. They also explain how easy the interface is to use and it allows the development team to personalize its usage in various ways. This video also gives us some amazing direct capture of gameplay in real time, showing the engine at work as it produces some impressive visuals. Massive Entertainment states that this engine will allow them to make games that are “not bigger, but better”.

The Division is another highly anticipated next-gen title revealed at E3 2013, however we may not see it release this year. A source claims that “The fact that Ubisoft has gone public with a 2014 release date feels laughable to be perfectly honest, we will never be able to release The Division this year. It’s a large project, and we have very far to go.” The Division will be an open world MMO-style third person shooter, allowing several friends to team up and explore the game’s detailed city. A release date is still unconfirmed, but we know that it will launch on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
