The sequel to 2011’s highly successful fighting game franchise reboot Mortal Kombat, has been spotted on an Italian gaming site games.it. The online website reports a listing for “Mortal Kombat 10” via an online retailer from Australia. The online store has since pulled the game from its pre-order listing. However, they were able to give a specific date of release, which is set for November 22 of this year. It also includes platforms on which it will be released on, these include: Playstation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, and PSVita. It is not unusual for game stores and online game websites to have a future placeholder for anticipated title. This is very exciting news for fans who have waited for NetherRealm Studios to officially announce their next project, whom some have speculated to be the next Mortal Kombat. Further evidence was provided by a recent interview with Kiefer Sutherland conducted by Ign last month. In that interview, Kiefer mentioned that doing Mortal Kombat and that it was a significant project, however his role in the development of the new game is still unknown.
NetherRealms Studios has been very quiet on their next project, the last one was Injustice: Gods Among Us. Given the success of the Mortal Kombat reboot in 2011, a sequel was inevitable. For a series that has lasted over 20 years strong, with a few bumps along the way, the future of this gory fighting game does not seem to be finishing anytime soon. Mortal Kombat is known for it’s brutal combat and often, controversial finishers. It is the video game that began the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) back with the first Mortal Kombat in 1992. Over two decades later, the brutality is far from over for this gore fest.
Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment, the parent company for NetherRealm Studios, will be present at E3 in June. The Electronic Entertainment Expo is home to some of gaming’s biggest reveals where we could see the next Mortal Kombat be unveiled this summer. The last Mortal Kombat was showcased at E3 2010. Is the next generation of Mortal Kombat closer in our future? What would you like to see be implemented in the sequel? Let us know in the comments.
