inFamous: Second Son’s Digital Download Size for PS4 Revealed

by GH Staff

It seems like everyone is excited for inFamous: Second Son, which is the latest iteration in one of the PlayStation’s most notable exclusive series. It’s been available for pre-order digitally on the PlayStation Store for quite awhile now (interestingly enough, it’s been there since before the recently-released game Thief made any sort of appearance on the store), so it’s clear that Sony wants as many people as possible to have a chance at getting the game.

It was revealed today that inFamous: Second Son would take up a rather modest 24 gigabytes of hard drive space. In comparison to games such as Battlefield 4 (over 40 gigabytes) and NBA 2K14 (nearly 50 gigabytes), this is likely good news for those gamers who are finding the PlayStations 500 gigabyte hard drive a bit too small.

Strangely, 24 gigabytes is also the exact same size as the game’s install if you opt to buy the game physically. This means that whether you decide to buy physically or not, you will still be losing the same amount of hard drive space. This may make the digital option a bit more attractive to people trying to save space, but at the same time, it’s sure to help fuel the argument that the PlayStation 4’s hard drive isn’t big enough. Back when the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were revealed to be shipping with 500 gigabyte hard drives, many gamers initially feared that this was far too small due to estimates that most games would be requiring around 50 gigabytes of space each. While this hasn’t been the end-all case of the matter, games are surely to become more graphically advanced and contain far more content in the future. It’s hard to say how much space games will begin to take up.

For reference, the Xbox One hard drive only allows for 362 gigabytes of free space after necessary applications vital to the system have been installed. The PlayStation 4 hard drive allows for 408 gigabytes of free space. You are able to change the hard drive in your Xbox One, but it will void your warranty. On the other side of the stick, you can change the hard drive in your PlayStation 4 without voiding anything. Sony has made it very easy to replace your hard drive, and encourages it.
