Flappy Bird May Return; Three Games in Development

Flappy Bird became a sudden sensation on iOS and Android several weeks back, and it was removed from both mobile stores when its developer, Dong Nguyen (pronounced nwin) announced over Twitter back on February 9 that he would be taking the game down. The reason behind this was because Nguyen could no longer deal with the attention Flappy Bird was giving him. Despite its success, Nguyen kept to his word and removed the game the night after.

Remaining mostly a mystery, Nguyen developed Flappy Bird in the spirit of the Nintendo games he grow up with during a holiday weekend off his day job. The game was published on May 24, but did not receive its sudden popularity until eight months later, when it went viral.

A few weeks after the game being pulled, there may perhaps be the possibility of Flappy Bird returning. During an interview with Rolling Stone, Nguyen confirmed that he is considering bringing the game back. It won’t be a new version of the game, but if Nguyen does re-release Flappy Bird it will feature various warning notifications to encourage players to take a break.

Nguyen has also confirmed that he is working on three games simultaneously: an unnamed cowboy-themed shooter, a vertical flying game titled Kitty Jetpack and Ceckonaut, an “action chess game,” as Nguyen puts it. Checkonaut will be launching this month, but all three titles will have simple gameplay, retro-style graphics and an exceptionally high difficulty.
