Keiji Inafune, the co-designer of the character Mega Man, recently revealed a new game he’s been working on. Azure Striker Gunvolt is his latest work, a 2D side-scrolling action game with a blue-suited protagonist. The game is being developed by Inti Creates, the studio that developed the Mega Man Zero series, which Keiji Inafune was the co-producer for. The game will launch exclusively for the 3DS, featuring a singleplayer campaign full of tough enemies, vibrant bosses and cool power-ups. The game was announced at the BitSummit indie games festival and will be available on the Nintendo eShop this summer. You can view the new trailer below, where Inafune gives a short introduction to the game and a narrator explains the story and gameplay.
Keiji Inafune is also directing a new crowdfunded project entitled ‘Mighty No. 9’, which will be co-developed by Comcept and Inti Creates. Fueled by Kickstarter, Mighty No. 9 aims to be a re-imagining of Mega Man, with very similar gameplay aspects. Keiji Inafune has also featured the Mighty No. 9 character in Tecmo’s upcoming action game Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, as a costume for the main character Yaiba. The gameplay of both Mighty No. 9 and Azure Striker Gunvolt are both very reminiscent of the original Mega Man games and the Mega Man Zero series respectively. Fans of Mega Man will soon have a taste of the intense 2D platforming action that they’ve been missing for years now. Mighty No. 9 will be developed for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Wii U, 3DS and PS Vita. You can learn more about Azure Striker Gunvolt on the official website.
