Sonic Boom announced for the Wii U and 3DS
Speculation about a future Sonic game has been running wild on the internet this week, and now we finally have the official confirmation from Sega. The popular hedgehog will be returning to the Wii U and 3DS in Sonic Boom, setting new trends and being accompanied by an animated show that will air on Cartoon Network in the 2014/2015 season. A few images have also been revealed for the upcoming game, and the core characters of the Sonic franchise have received quite the makeover.
Amy remained unchanged mostly, Tails received a utility belt, Sonic’s legs have grown (a trend that has been going on for awhile now), and Knuckles received a major steroid shipment. Apparently, Knuckles must have gotten a discount at the local gym, he’s by far the most beefy and changed character of the upcoming Sonic game. Big Red Button Entertainment is developing the game for the Wii U, while Sanzaru Games is working on the 3DS version. Sanzaru Games is known for the Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time game, a game that apparently spawned an animated CGI film of its own, set for release in 2015.
Back on the topic of Sonic, Sonic Boom will feature a 4-man cooperative multiplayer, the canonical Sonic gameplay elements like speeding, along with combat and exploration. The game will be released later this year, and will run in parallel with an animated series airing on Cartoon Network. The series will consist out of 52 episode, each 11 minutes long. Of course, there’s also a trailer for the game, showing off the capabilities of the engine, which looks surprisingly good. It’s great to see that the Wii U still has great exclusives coming its way.
