Last Borderlands 2 DLC Announced, Borderlands 3 is not being made

by GH Staff

Gearbox announced that the last DLC for Borderlands 2 will be entitled “Sir Hammerlock vs. the Son of Crawmerax” and will be coming out on the 15th of April. The 5th and final Headhunter DLC for Borderlands 2 won’t kill your finances either, as it will only cost $2.99. The setting for Borderlands 2: Sir Hammerlock vs. the Son of Crawmerax will be built around an abandoned island resort, where Sir Hammerlock has been kidnapped.

This DLC closes the story-arch started by Borderlands 2 in 2012, but for those of you that are huge fans of the game, threat not. Telltale games has already confirmed that it is working on a Borderlands game, which is due sometime this year. Obviously, the focus will be set on story and character interaction, but that’s never a bad thing, especially in a rich setting like the one in Borderlands. As far as Borderlands 2 itself is concerned, the 4th Headhunter DLC was released just a few days ago, and was themed around Valentine’s Day. Entitled Mad Moxxi and the Wedding Day Massacre, the DLC was received well by the community and critics alike.

Sir Hammerlock - Borderlands 2

As such, we have every reason to believe that Borderlands 2: Sir Hammerlock vs. the Son of Crawmerax will be a successful and fitting end to Gearbox’s incredible game. But what about a sequel? Well, in an exclusive interview with Polygon, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford clearly stated that at this time, there are no plans for a Borderlands 3 game. “We are not working on Borderlands 3. That is unqualified. We have more to do in the franchise, but no there isn’t a Borderlands 3.” he stated.

“We love Borderlands, and we know customers do too. So we will be doing more in Borderlands. But the thing that, when you think of what Borderlands 3 should be… No. We are not developing that right now. We don’t know what that is yet. We can imagine what it must achieve, but we don’t know what it is yet. I’m not going to f**k around with you like Valve does with Half-Life 3. Look. We know we want it and we know it should exist, but we don’t know what it is yet. But we are doing things in Borderlands that we’ll announce soon, that are good, and that I think people will be really excited about if you love the franchise.” he continued, hinting at the entire mystery behind Valve’s Half Life 3, a game that the community is begging for, yet Valve doesn’t seem to be willing to deliver.

When speaking about what Borderlands 3 should be like, Randy Pitchford said that “It should be bigger and better than Borderlands 2. It should carry forward the story. It’s probably crazy multiplatform, depending on timing. It would have to be a next-gen game and a current-gen game, if it was coming at any time in the reasonably near future.”

Despite this news, Borderlands fans should not be worried. Gearbox’s franchise is in great hands with Telltale, and whenever Gearbox actually decides to make a sequel (and they most certainly will), we’re sure it will be a worthy successor. Until than, you have the last Borderlands 2 DLC to look forward to.
