Keeping your DLC after Gran Turismo 5 servers go offline
It has been previously announced that Gran Turismo 5 will be taken ofline on May 31, 2014. This means the Online Lobby, Seasonal Events, Museum, News, Community, Remote Race, Log in Bonuses, the Online Dealership, and DLC purchases will no longer be available. This will allow the team to focus on Gran Turismo 6 and the future release of GT7. Sony is most likely expecting a drop in players to the point that it will not be beneficial to continue to support the title. This raises the question for already purchased DLC items, such as cars, tracks, and paint schemes. Via Gran-Turismo.com, Sony has announced the process in making sure the DLC is still accessible for the game after support ceases. While the servers go down on May 31st, the items on the PS Store will be removed on April 30th. For the “Racing Car Pack” and “Course Pack” (same with the “Complete Pack”), players will need to do the following:
1. Select the Downloadable Content icon on the GT5 home screen and then install the purchased items;
2. Access the PlayStation®Store from the XMB and enter the “Gran Turismo 5″ section. Purchase the [Family Upgrade] for the items in question (free of charge.)
By doing this, players can make sure that even after the “End of Days” of GT5, they can still access the items they paid for if the game data was deleted and someone looks to return to the game. The DLC can be pulled within the PlayStation Store via the download list, or by selecting PSN>Account Management>Transaction History. However, the “Paint Pack” and “Racing Gear Pack” will not be able to be installed if he game data is deleted. Lastly, Gran Turismo TV will no longer be distributed on GT5 as of March 14, 2014. The programs that were purchased will be available for viewing and downloading from “My List” during the availability period. The service will be completely terminated on March 14, 2015.
