However, if you have the thirst for blood and want to express your emotional state through virtual killing and slaughtering, we here at Gamer Headlines may have just the games for you. Be warned, as the following top 10 contains some of the most brutally violent video games that we have tried to play.

Honorable Mention: No More Heroes

Ever wanted to slice a man in two? No more heroes lets you do just that. Released first to the Wii, the game was later porder to the PS3 and the Xbox 360 version. Although, most of the international releases of the games have been censored, fans of the game that owned a PS3 were able to enjoy as much violence as the Japanese ones. Our honorable mention for most brutally violent video game goes to No More Heroes, which barely missed the tenth spot in our list.

Number 10: The Saints Row Series

To start up our list, we chose one of the most controversial video game series. Saints Row have received both love and hatred by many. Aimed at delivering a humorous action-adventure experience, Volition games have created a masterpiece worthy of a ban in Australia, because of “interactive visual depictions of implied sexual violence which are not justified by context.” While not as brutally violent as the other games in our list, Saints Row is deserving of the tenth place in our list.

Number 9: The Darkness II

The intended psychological horror in the first person shooter The Darkness II shows just how video game realism can bring to life your deepest nightmares. The brutality in this game is intensified by the fact that you are getting special upgrades and restoring your health by eating the hearts of people and taking their heads off.

Number 8: Dead Space Series

Banned in Germany, China and Japan, the Dead Space Series contain some of the most brutal and violent scenes ever to be brought to the virtual reality. Although the evolving storyline of Dead Space is breathtaking, the horrifying creatures that have to be torn down to pieces in order to be killed make the game series one of the hardest and emotionally challenging games to be played.

Number 7: Carmageddon

Unless you have been living under a spaceship the last decade, you’ve most probably heard about the highly controversial Carmageddon. Giving you points to kill as many pedestrians as possible, the graphically violent game is embracing the violent brutal spirit that every one of us experiences while playing Grand Theft Auto. Released back in 1997, the game was inspired by the 1975 classic movie Death Race 2000, which was later remade to the big screen in 2008.

Bringing every mythical creature and person from the greek mythology to life just to let you brutally kill it, while taking control of Kratos, The God Of War video game series are one of the most brutal video games up to date. Enhanced by the game’s visual fidelity, the blood soaked scenes can make you scream internally.

Number 5: MadWorld

A japanese creation, Mad World is designed in a unique black and white graphical novel style. As the overall style allows the red blood to pop up and with the brutal chainsaw massacres, the game takes the respective fifth place in our list of most brutally violent video games.

Number 4: Manhunt Series

A psychological horror video game that gives you control over a psychotic killer, the Manhunt series is as brutally violent as a game can be. Much like an instructional video for a serial killer, this Rockstar creation was banned in several countries and implicated in a murder by the UK media.

Number 3: The Postal Video Game Series

What is wrong with a game that makes you do simple everyday tasks, such as going to get some milk from the store? The fact that you are able to literary urinate on people while doing so. Although the game developers say that the game is only as violent as the person playing it, the Postal video games have been highly controversial. A comedy movie adaptation of the first game was brought to screen, but was not as successful as the game.

Number 2: Phantasmagoria

Released back in 1996, Phantasmagoria is a unique interactive movie psychological horror. Featuring a real actress to intensify the horror, the game is definitely worthy of the number two spot in our top ten most brutally violent video games.

Top 10 Most Brutally Violent Video Games Mortal Kombat

Number 1: Mortal Kombat

Although it may have been obvious from the title itself, the number one spot goes to Mortal Kombat. The game’s finishing moves are full of gruesome brutality ever since the first title of the franchise. Known for the violence, the fighting game had a successor called Thrill Kill that was later cancelled, because of its depiction of violence and sexual content.
