If by chance you bet your life savings that Duke Nukem would star in a top-down action RPG sometime in 2014/2015, then congratulations friend because you won. After the disastrous Duke Nukem Forever (sorry for those that enjoyed it – I know there are a few of you out there), I would have bet that we had seen the last of Duke Nukem and Co. for a little while. Nevertheless, it seems as if the Duke Nukem party has been warming up, as Interceptor Entertainment (Rise of the Triad, iOS ports of Duke Nukem) and 3D Realms will be releasing their action RPG Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction to PC and PS4 in the near future.
The promotion of the game is interesting. Not only is there a teaser of the game at alloutofgum.com, but on the game’s official Facebook page, scripts of alien text were posted that described nothing short of the death of a planet and the survival of a species known as the Kyrr. Fans of the Facebook page translated the text, with one paragraph reading as follows:
“Duke Nukem kicks ass across planets in an Unreal Engine-powered galactic adventure to save the president from an apocalyptic alien threat. All new enemies. A never-before-seen arsenal of devastating weaponry and series-first mechanics, including experience points and tech trees, will let Duke rip ’em a new one in a way he never has before.”
The timer on the teaser site will hit zero on February 25, will an announcement likely following shortly thereafter.
