In just over a month, the PS3 version of the sandbox mining game Minecraft passed its 1 million sold copies milestone. Just a few days ago it was reported that the Xbox 360 version of the game continues to grow and has build a strong audience since its release back in May, 2012 selling over 10 million copies to date.
The original version of the game, released back in November, 2011 for the PC, Mac and Linux, has sold over 13.8 million copies up to date. With over 17, 000 copies sold in the last 24 hours the number is going up and is soon expected to reach the 14 million mark. The mobile edition of the game is also going strong passing the 10 million sold copies milestone back in May, 2013.
Currently in the works for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and the PS Vita, Minecraft is one of the best selling indie games of our generation and has changed the gaming world and the way we perceive games in various ways. Although a WiiU release was rumored, Mojang has not released any official statement regarding the development of the game for the next-gen Nintendo console.
Soon to be reaching younger audiences with Minecraft Realms, the game is reaching new audiences every day and may very well be perceived as the Tetris of our generation of gaming.
