New content coming up for Star Wars: The Old Republic
Subscribers of the MMORPG from Bioware, Star Wars: The Old Republic, could get their hands on the new Galactic Starfighter expansion pack in December 2013. The expansion pack made drastic changes to what space flight meant in The Old Republic, and for the first time, players could engage in space PvP. Reviews of the expansion pack proved to be mostly positive, but, regardless of how much you’ve liked it (or not), it’s undeniable that the new space combat was a huge step up from the repetitive xp farming missions of the old days.
Now, Bioware is pushing hard, and has some new content lined up for the beginning of 2014. Starting with the 14th of January, Preferred status players (players that, at some point, purchased Cartel Coins for the game) will be able to test the expansion pack themselves.
The good stuff is coming on the 4th of February though. This is when free-to-play players will get to access the new content, but that’s not all! Come February, Bioware will be introducing a new ship class to The Old Republic, mainly the bomber. From what we can tell, this will be a slow and less maneuverable ship that brings insane firepower to the field. Not only that, but a new Team Deathmatch PvP mode will also be introduced, which is a fitting way to test out that new ship!
But space combat is not all that’s coming in SWTOR. A new Flashpoint will be made available, mainly the Kuat Drive Yard. This flashpoint will not be level-limited, and will have a random generator factor which will make it diverse enough to increase replay factor. The flashpoints will be generated randomly upon entry, with random layouts and different objectives each time, so it will be anything but repetitive. A new area will be added to the current layout of the Fleet (basically the central hub of each faction, where you get to show off your mount or pets), which is aimed to link the new content to the old.
A new event is also being planned for the month of January, which we don’t know much about, apart from the statement of Bioware officials that it will be “iconic”. Way to tease, guys! And, lastly, new items will be brought into the Cartel Market – new armor sets, weapons and pets. Bioware’s recent collaboration with major retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon will also result in custom pets for players that choose to buy Cartel Coins through these retailers.
All-in-all, it seems like Bioware is planning to start strong this year. Is this enough reason to pick up the game again for the first time? That’s up to you! I personally haven’t played it in quite some time, but the time I have spent in it was well spent. With the addition of this much content, it just might be worth installing the client once again. After all, if you’re a Star Wars junkie, you need to get your fix sooner or later.
