There’s a lot of news and hype coming from the direction of Telltale games, a game developer studio that has been in the spotlights since launching the highly popular and successful Walking Dead series. And, 2014 will be a busy year for them, as they have just announced that they are working on a game set in the Borderlands universe called Tales from the Borderlands: A Telltale Game series.
Now, one thing you should know about Telltale is that they are really, really good at telling stories, creating atmosphere and bringing unforgettable characters to life. We’ve seen this in The Walking Dead, and we’re expecting to see more in their Borderlands game. They will be teaming up with Gearbox Studios, the creators of previous Borderlands games, which were highly popular (Borderlands 2 sold more than 15 million copies).
Known for their point and click gameplay style, we’re not sure what exactly to expect from Telltale with this new title. Still, given that they have Gearbox to help them out, we’re pretty confident they will bring something new to the table, while keeping their major strength, story-telling. Tales from the Borderlands will be released sometime in 2014, but as the teaser announcement and trailer has just been made, we’re expecting a late 2014 release period.
Lastly, we know that Telltale uses a unique system in publishing their games, releasing parts of the games as episodes. In a sense, they manage to bring the world of television into gaming, while keeping the strong aspects of both entertainment platforms. Borderlands will be no exception, and the game will be released in an episodic fashion, episodes which will be a continuation of the same story thread. The game is being developed for major consoles, mobile platforms, as well as the PC and Mac. In addition to Borderlands, Telltale is also currently working on the second season of the Walking Dead game, and has also announced an upcoming Game of Thrones game.
