The 17th of December will be a great day for gaming, and not just for the zombie slayer within us (yes, The Walking Dead Season 2 will also release on the same day, you can find more information here), but also for the MMO fans as well. Square Enix has just revealed a new trailer and the release date for it’s upcoming major update, 2.1, for Final Fantasy XIV. The devs describe the Update as follows:
“The realm of Eorzea is ever-changing, and new adventures are on the horizon! Explore the Crystal Tower and discover what untold terrors now lurk within its walls. Test your mettle against the primals in new extreme battles or against fellow adventurers in the Wolves’ Den. Develop stronger ties with the beast tribes and learn more of their cultures. Brave new dungeons for spoils and glory, or search for buried treasure. Rise to the defense of the realm once more together with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. All this and much more awaits adventurers in A Realm Awoken!”
In truth, the update is more like an expansion pack. It will introduce a new dungeon for 24 players called “The Crystal Tower”, as well as a new PvP arena named “The Wolves’ Den”. Added to this, and this is probably one of the most anticipated features for fans, the update will allow players to build their own houses, in one of the 3 major capitol cities, once they acquire a parcel of land.
Currently, the game is available on PC and Playstation 3, but Square Enix is hard at work at porting the game to Playstation 4 as well. The PS4 version is targeted for a Spring 2014 release! The game is subscription based and is still NOT a free to play MMORPG. However, creating a new account comes with a 30-day free trial.
