Battlefield 4 formally banned in China

by GH Staff

The China’s Ministry of Culture has officially banned Battlefield 4. The game is now formally condemned, but this comes as no surprise, because ever since the release of the game China’s officials have been deeply offended.

The main reason for the ban is that the combat in Battlefield 4 takes place in China and the main antagonist is Chinese. Although, as the story progresses we learn that he is planning to overthrow China in order to bring it to war with the United States, it is said that the game’s content may cause turmoil in the country.

Even before the ban, the game was never available officially for sale in China. However, people were able to get a copy of it through the gray market and as of this morning it is still available. The main probability is that the ban won’t have any effect on the gray market sales.

This is not the first time a game is banned in China for such a reason. Almost a decade ago Command & Conquer: Generals was banned on similar grounds. When it comes to game or movie content that has anything to do with People’s Liberation Army developers and producers should be very careful. If they would like for their content to be available in China, then the People’s Liberation Army should not lose.

This is also not the first time when a Battlefield game was banned in a country for similar reasons. Battlefield 3 was banned in Iran, as the game’s main scene of fighting was Tehran – Iran’s capital.
