Notoriously anti-gaming South Australian Attorney General Michael Atkinson is coming under fire from a new political party challenging him on his own turf – and he doesn’t like it one little bit.
The reactionary politician, widely blamed as being the only person preventing the whole of Australia from entering the 21st century by allowing the creation of an adults only “R” rating for video games in the country, has had a full blown tantrum in response to the news that Gamers4Croydon, a new political party, will be challenging him in his own seat of Croydon in the upcoming State Election. “I assume the Gamers4Croydon campaign will include criminal activities and dirty tricks, which is what I’ve come to expect from gamers,” he ranted in a letter to computerandvideogames.com. “Regardless, I think they will struggle to get even 1 percent of the votes, and their campaign will actually discredit the public campaign in support for R 18+ rather than enhance its chances.”
Gamers4Croydon head David Doe called Atkinson’s comments “ridiculous” and noted “He’s been in this seat for 20 years… but from what I’ve seen so far, and people I’ve talked to, there’s a fair undercurrent of anti-Atkinson sentiment. The guy is hugely experienced and for this reason we can’t get him out of parliament. Gamers4Croydon are going to try and run the best campaign we can and see what happens… It’s going to be a long and protracted battle.” He noted that Atkinson’s abusive comments were “a completely ridiculous statement…. (but) it’s not surprising he’d say something like that.”
Gamers all over Australia will no doubt be hoping that Gamers4Croydon will be able to strike a blow in the campaign to finally have Atkinson removed from political office.

Michael Atkinson is not only ignorant but also arrogant, one of the worst kind of people. I actually feel sorry for his kids
