Hardcore gamers are abandoning the Wii, according to Capcom France head Antoine Seux. Seux told French computing site GameKult.com that poor sales of “hardcore” games on the platform indicate that traditional gamers are abandoning the Nintendo console and as a result, they themselves will be directing their software output back to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Seux said that sales of “Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles” were well “below what we’d hoped”, noting that “Development on Wii (is) very difficult, with an oversupply (of software) and a gamer market that has radically changed. (Hardcore games) are selling less and less on the console, (whether it is) “MadWorld” or “Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop” or “House of the Dead: Overkill”… Two years ago there were still (hardcore) gamers on Wii, (but they have now been) diverted from this console in favour of the new generation.” As a result, Seux admits “The Wii console is (now) very much a family commitment (and) rates relatively low. So for us, Capcom, the future is in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.”
Seux’s comments come as little surprise, especially following the interview with Constantine Hantzopoulos, the Development Director of Sega America, who last week admitted that “mature” games for the Wii were no longer going to be produced. “Are we going to develop more mature titles for the Wii? Probably not,” she said in an interview with 1UP, primarily because, she believes, “Anyone over twelve years old was playing PS3 and Xbox 360 shooters.”

Yaa no kidding my wife wants a Wii for the Wii fit… But Im not falling over myself to drop 500 bucks so she can amuse herself for a few nights then stick me with a system I dont want.. Said it before.. Motion as far as the hardcore goes will replace the button mini game.. Picking a lock with your hands or walking a tight rope.. ect.. Shooters with hand to hand combat.. or fist fights.. that add to what is already cool..
I look forward to the death of the button mini game.. It always was a lame excuse for variety.. Far more annoying than interesting.. Motion cut scenes.. thats the ticket..
