Another Australian software company is being forced to lay off staff as a result of the global economic downturn.
Fuzzyeyes Studio, based in Brisbane, has confirmed that it has been forced to lay off an undisclosed number of employees, yet another in an increasing line of Australian software companies that have taken such an action in 2009. The CEO of Fuzzyeyes, Wei-Yao Lu, reduced a statement on Friday saying that the company had reduced is staff numbers to a “minimum” as far back as the end of September. “During this transition period, Fuzzyeyes will temporarily seize development on any project,” Lu’s statement read. “However, Fuzzyeyes is still in business and the office is still open. Until the transition is fully settled, Fuzzyeyes will suspend all onsite development but all out-sourced development is still ongoing.” This includes the upcoming release “Eyes of Twilight”, the development of which has been shifted overseas. The statement also revealed that parts of the company have also already been sold off to an unidentified third party, back at the beginning of October.
According to GameSpot.com, which had previously run an interview with Lu, the company employed thirty five staff members, although how many have been affected by the layoffs has not been spelled out by the company. Fuzzeyes Studio joins a number of Australian software companies that have been forced to lay off staff members during 2009, including Krome Studios and Transmission Games, even in a year where video game sales in the country have been breaking records left, right and centre.
