The increasingly bizarre case of the Californian gamer who appears to intend to sue every video game company around just keeps on getting stranger by the day.
The San Jose man, the same individual who attempted to sue Sony after being banned from the PSN Network, only to have the case dismissed in September, and who has since filed suit against Microsoft and Nintendo because of – uh – a broken Xbox, has now launched a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard because of “World of Warcraft” alleging that not only is the game is too expensive, but that it is affecting his mental health by playing it too much.
No, really. The gamer says in his suit that Activision Blizzard’s game maintains “a harmful virtual environment”. Even more hilariously, the plaintiff says he intends to subpoena appearances from celebrities such as Winona Ryder and Depeche Mode’s Martin Lee Gore, the latter “since he himself has been known to be sad, lonely and alienated, as can be seen in the songs he writes”, and the former because her affection for “Catcher in the Rye” will make her a relevant witness “to how alienation in the book can tie to alienation in real life video games such as “World of Warcraft”. The gamer is suing Activision Blizzard for a million dollars and a court order to force the company to help with his mental health problems, as “he relies on video games heavily for the little ongoing happiness he can achieve in his life, via the gaming medium.” It’s like something out of “Boston Legal”.
