PS3 Video Store Revs Up for Launch

The launch date for the much hyped PS3 Video Store – a kind of UK equivalent for the US Netflix service, which allows user to stream television shows and films and has just become available to use via the PS3 over there this week – will be announced next week.

Sony says that the rumours that have been flying around of late that the service will become operational on November 18 are false, but that the day will mark their official announcement of the real launch date for the PS3 Video Store. Films already confirmed to be available via the service when it does get up and running include “Angels & Demons”, “Casion Royale”, “Crank 2: High Voltage”, “Hannah Montana: The Movie”, “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince”, “The Hills Have Eyes” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”.

No doubt though that many more will inevitably follow – Netflix has literally thousands of films (and television series episodes) available to stream instantly- and most of the major film studios are already on board. Sony has previously told computerandvideogames.com that the service will launch in late November, so whether that date remains accurate remains to be seen, but all will no doubt be revealed on the eighteenth. The Netflix version requires a subscription fee of $8.99 a month in the US, and the price will undoubtedly be one of the key elements UK PS3 users will be looking at when the full details are revealed next week.
