PC Modern Warfare

The PC gaming community has gone ballistic following the announcement from Infinity Ward that the much anticipated sequel game “Modern Warfare 2” will not have dedicated online servers devoted to it akin to its predecessor, but will instead use a console-esque matchmaking system by way of ifinityWard.net.

The news has outraged many in the gaming community, resulting in an online petition against the move that has so far garnered around forty six thousand signatures. One typically pleasant (and literate) response from one particularly outraged gamer read as follows: “WHAT THE f***! This is such bullshit. If IW.net sucks i’ll say bye bye to MW2 and hello CoD4” (referring to the “Call of Duty” series). The news was revealed to gaming site bashandslash.com by the community manager at Infinity Ward, Robert Bowling, and has caused chaos among fans.

A more rational and perhaps fairer response came from one online gamer, Josh Peckler, who posted on planetmedalofhonor.com to note disappointedly, “The server community is what’s made us. It’s what defined us. IW.net is getting the PC community to turn into consoles. You’re trying to rewrite our history.” In a sign of how divisive the issue is becoming, Infinity Ward’s forums even featured a thread entitled “Console players in support of PC players! Help them out!”, indicating that even the usually divided members of the gaming community are outraged by the decision.

In slightly more encouraging news for the PC community regarding “Modern Warfare 2”, Bowling later told bashandslash.com that the PC version has not been delayed, that there will be a Steam version and that Prestige will also be included in the PC edition of the game.
