Writer and comedian Danny Wallace has landed a role in the upcoming computer game “Assassin’s Creed II”. The former gaming journalist, now best known for writing books such as “Friends Like These”, “Join Me” and “Yes Man” (the latter of which recently became a Hollywood comedy feature film starring Jim Carrey), as well as his regular column for the lifestyle magazine “ShortList”, will lend his voice and his animated likeness to the character of Shaun Hastings in the eagerly awaited Ubisoft sequel. The character of Hastings serves as a guide, historian and source of information to the player throughout the game. Wallace is delighted to have landed the gig, saying, “Going right back to my days of working on Sega Power, I’ve always been a keen gamer and being involved, and actually being in a game like “Assassin’s Creed II” is amazing! I have to say, I’m rather excited.” Of his character, he says “He’s called Shaun and he’s a kind of historian. I thought he was just a bog standard nerd, but turns out no; he has got a darker side, which is cool. He chooses mainly to sit at a computer and study the history of Renaissance Italy and impart information, sometimes slightly sarcastically, to our hero. So that’s what I’ve been doing.” The scriptwriter for “Assassin’s Creed II”, Corey May, said that “When the UK suggested Danny Wallace to us, we were completely open to the idea. Danny has been fantastic to work with, and his manner and particular style of humour has worked out perfect for the role of Shaun.”
